Surrey is home to some of the most stunning wedding venues in the country — converted barns nestled in the Surrey Hills, grand country houses in the Weald, and elegant golf clubs just 30 minutes from London. But not all venues are created equal when it comes to entertainment. The room acoustics, power supply, curfew, layout and the venue team’s attitude towards outside suppliers all make a significant difference to what your evening actually looks and sounds like.
As a DJ and events company that works at Surrey venues every weekend, we see first-hand which venues are set up for great entertainment and which create avoidable headaches. This guide covers some of our favourite Surrey wedding venues from an entertainment perspective — what makes them work well and what you should know before you book.
What Makes a Surrey Venue Great for Entertainment?
Before diving into specific venues, it helps to understand what an entertainment-friendly venue actually looks like. Here is what we look for:
- A dedicated evening function space. Venues where the same room does everything from the ceremony to the disco tend to create setup and sound-bleed challenges. A dedicated evening space that the DJ can set up in during the day means everything is ready when guests arrive.
- Adequate power supply. Professional sound and lighting equipment requires reliable, dedicated power circuits. Venues that have been built or converted with entertainment in mind will have this sorted. Older converted spaces sometimes require creative solutions.
- Sensible noise curfew. A midnight finish is the minimum for most couples. Some Surrey venues in residential areas have earlier restrictions — 11pm or even 10:30pm — which can significantly affect the flow of your evening. Always confirm the curfew before you book.
- Good acoustic treatment. Bare stone walls and vaulted ceilings can make a room sound harsh at volume. Good venues have soft furnishings, acoustic panels or natural materials that soak up reflections and make the sound system perform better.
- Accessible load-in. Our equipment is heavy and on wheels. Venues with level access and a straightforward load-in route mean we can set up quickly and cleanly without risk of damage to the venue or to us.
Our Favourite Surrey Wedding Venues for Entertainment
Highley Manor, Balcombe
Highley Manor is arguably the finest country house wedding venue in the county. Set in 48 acres of West Sussex and Surrey countryside on the border, it offers a combination of grand architecture, beautiful grounds and a genuinely world-class events team that makes every supplier’s job easier.
The ballroom is everything you could want — excellent acoustics, a proper dancefloor footprint, and natural light during the day that transitions to an intimate, warm atmosphere in the evening. We have worked here many times and the team are experienced, organised and always go above and beyond. The curfew is reasonable and the venue is fully set up for entertainment at the highest level.
Entertainment verdict: Excellent in every respect. One of our top-rated venues in the region.
The Ravenswood, Sharpthorne
The Ravenswood in Sharpthorne is a stunning converted coaching inn venue with exposed beams, open fires and a barn-style function room that consistently produces great parties. It holds a special place for us because the combination of the intimate space, warm natural materials and the enthusiastic crowd that the venue tends to attract creates an atmosphere that is hard to manufacture.
The main function barn has good acoustics for its size and the venue team are easy to work with. The venue suits a focused DJ setup with premium compact sound. An LED dancefloor looks beautiful against the wooden floor and beams. Cold sparks and dancing on clouds are both possible subject to advance confirmation with the venue.
Entertainment verdict: One of the best intimate venue atmospheres we work in. Always a great night.
Kingswood Golf and Country Club, Tadworth
Kingswood Golf and Country Club near Tadworth combines the grandeur of an Edwardian-style clubhouse with modern event facilities in a beautiful Surrey countryside setting. The main ballroom is a proper, well-proportioned space with good acoustics and room for a full DJ setup, LED dancefloor and additional entertainment elements.
Being close to the M25, it is well-placed for guests travelling from London and across Surrey and Kent. The venue team are professional and experienced with outside entertainment suppliers. One of the better-organised venues in the county from a supplier perspective.
Entertainment verdict: Well-suited for medium to larger weddings where you want the full package.
Oaks Farm Barns, Chiddingfold
Oaks Farm Barns in Chiddingfold is a beautiful venue set in the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The converted barn has the characteristic exposed timbers and warm character that makes barn venues so popular, combined with a self-contained site that gives couples real flexibility over their day.
From an entertainment perspective, the barn works well for a DJ and dancefloor package. The room benefits from the acoustic properties of the natural materials, and the space responds well to professional sound. An LED dancefloor suits the aesthetic perfectly — the white starlit boards against the wooden beams looks stunning in photographs.
Entertainment verdict: Beautiful venue, great atmosphere, well-suited to the full entertainment package.
What About Venue Noise Curfews in Surrey?
Noise curfews vary significantly across Surrey and depend partly on the local authority, partly on the venue’s premises licence and partly on the surrounding residential density. Rural venues in the Surrey Hills often have more flexibility than those in or near residential areas.
As a rule of thumb, venues with a midnight curfew give you a workable evening. 1am is ideal. Below midnight starts to feel rushed, particularly if you have a large guest count and entertainment additions like photobooths and effects that need time to shine.
Always ask your venue: “What is the absolute music curfew?” and “What is the internal sound level permitted?” The second question is often overlooked but matters — some venues impose a sound limiter that cuts the PA if it peaks above a set level, which can affect sound quality at high energy moments in the evening.
Combining Entertainment at a Surrey Wedding
The venues above all suit a combined entertainment package. Here is how a typical full-package wedding at a Surrey venue works:
- Drinks reception (3–5pm): Live saxophonist or bongo player performing background and roaming music while guests arrive and photographs are taken.
- Dinner (5–8pm): Gentle background music through the sound system, coordinated by your DJ. Live musician available for the room if desired.
- First dance (8pm): DJ coordinates the introduction. Cold sparks or dancing on clouds can enhance this moment subject to venue approval.
- Evening reception (8pm–midnight/1am): DJ-led dancefloor, LED dancefloor lit and in use, photobooth open for guests. Cold sparks timed for a later peak moment if included.
This format is now standard at premium Surrey weddings and it works because each element has a clear purpose and the transitions between them feel natural rather than forced.
Choosing an Entertainment Company for Your Surrey Wedding
Look for a company that has worked at your specific venue — or at venues of a similar type and scale. Venue experience matters more than people realise. A DJ who has never worked at a venue with a sound limiter, a restricted load-in or a strict curfew is going to encounter surprises on the day. You do not want surprises on your wedding day.
Check that they carry public liability insurance (minimum £5 million) and that all electrical equipment is PAT tested. Your venue will require this documentation in advance and any reputable company should be able to provide it without being asked twice.
Ask how they handle music planning — is there a proper process for you to brief them on your taste, must-plays and do-not-plays? The best companies make this feel easy and personal rather than a box-ticking exercise.
We work across Surrey, London and West Sussex and would be glad to advise on entertainment options at your specific venue. Get in touch or call us on 01293 222718 and we can talk through what works best for your day.
